Affichem S.A. is a limited company based in Toulouse (France) and founded in 2002 as a spin‐off of the INSERM, French national institute for health, to develop patents of Dendrogenins, original small molecules (alkylaminooxysterols) which are potent inductors of cell differentiation.

Affichem mission is to conceive, to synthesize, to develop and out‐license drug candidates.

The neurodegenerative diseases, such as Hearing Loss, result from the deterioration and the loss of neurons.
After encouraging in vitro tests showing that AF243 induced dendrite formation on precursor neurons and neuronal differentiation, Affichem validated in vivo the efficacy of AF243 on a neuronal degeneration model causing hearing loss. AF243 shows nerve repair properties equivalent to a combination of neurotrophic factors. These data make AF243 a unique drug candidate for the treatment of the various causes of deafness related to the dysfunction of the inner ear.

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe. Belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, the institution has collaboration agreements with more than 30 bodies in around 50 countries, and is participating actively in the construction of the European Research Area (ERA). CSIC plays an important role in scientific and technological policy, since it encompasses an area that takes  in everything from basic research to the transfer of knowledge to the productive sector. It has 6% of all the staff dedicated to Research and Development in Spain, and they generate approximately 20% of all scientific production in the country.

With a student body numbering 20,000 and a staff of 4300, 2800 of whom are teachers or researchers, the University of Liège (Ulg) in Belgium offers diversified courses of study (38 bachelor's, 193 master's, and 68 advanced master's programmes), is committed to the development of student‐centered learning, is intensely involved in international research programmes and is in contact with more than 600 institutions throughout the world (250 in Europe).

Being located in the heart of the Ulg, the GIGA is an academic research center of excellence with the innovative structure of “open laboratory” which enhances multidisciplinarity within research. It gives access to state of‐the‐art technology. The GIGA‐Neurosciences thematic unit, headed by Brigitte Malgrange, is composed of 7 units that focus on neuroscience at the cellular and molecular level. Together these laboratories gather 90 members and present a strong experience in FP7 projects.
